Safety

If you aren't able to swim 100m when tired or stressed we ask that you wear a PFD (life jacket). Dragon boating is a specific upper body sport so if you have:

- a heart condition
- a bad back
- high or low blood pressure
- any other pre-existing condition or
- are on any medication

you must discuss your condition with the Coach prior to getting into the boat.
Asthmatics are to carry their puffers and self-administer.

We care about our paddlers and always do our best to ensure everyone's experience in the boat is rewarding.
Your safety and that of the entire crew is paramount so please accept the Coach's decision as final.

What to wear?

Always wear Sunscreen - water resistant SPF30

Don't want to run the risk of losing something overboard? Leave it on shore!
It is a water sport: you will get wet, some days very wet, so anything going into the boat has to be water-proof.
For protection and grip you are strongly encouraged to wear shoes: sport shoes, sandals or aqua socks are recommended.

We recommend a closer fitting short sleeved t-shirt and it’s much better if your shorts aren’t shiny. The benches in most of the boats are quite smooth and shiny shorts will conspire to assist you paddling on your knees. It can be done but we don’t know anyone who recommends it.

A hat for sun protection and glasses to help keep salt water out of your eyes. Prescription glasses should be tied on somehow. If they fall off - they’re gone.
Dependant on the intensity of training, paddles, hats and wallets may be rescued but no guarantees are offered!
